Introducing the Flower Hill Team

2023-06-26

Welcoming three new members!

Dear Flower Hill Community,

As summer settles in the buzz around the house grows! John and I have welcomed in three new members to the Flower Hill team and we would like to introduce them to you. This spring we welcomed Tammy Whitehead as our new Business Manager. Tammy's talents as a business manager coupled with her dedication to serving Austin's non-profits and arts organizations for over two decades made her an obvious choice for the role. Her passion and enthusiasm for the Smoots, the House, and a well-oiled-machine of a foundation are greatly welcomed here. Thanks to a generous donation, Flower Hill has been able to hire a collections team to begin the daunting process of organizing and managing the dozens of thousands of items in the home. Work on the collections has stopped and started over the years--before the pandemic we had a mighty team of volunteers who worked, cared for, and cataloged all of the Miss Smoot's journals, scrapbooks, family photographs, letters, and recipe books. Joining us now are Adrian and Michele, who together, will oversee the creation of an updated collections system, make recommendations for long term care of items, and begin a likely three year journey to catalogue every item at the house. We are overjoyed to have them here.

We look forward to sharing more about the collections work with you this fall. We plan to have some show-and-tell sessions and open house days where you can come learn about some of favorite finds and curious backstories of the collection.

Starting in September we will be looking for volunteers to work with Michele and Adrian, so please reach out if you would like to be a part of the collections team!

Stay cool and enjoy the Texas summer!

Natalie
